Le festival Rock en Seine a été fondé 2003. Il se tient tous les ans à la fin du mois d’août dans le Domaine National de Saint-Cloud. Lors de sa première édition, il accueille sur une seule journée dix artistes sur deux scène. Massive Attack, PJ Harvey, Beck, Morcheeba, Keziah Jones, K’s Choice, Tom McRae ou encore Eagle Eye Cherry inaugurent le festival.

En 2004, Rock en Seine accueille sur deux jours une vingtaine d’artistes : Sonic Youth, The White Stripes, The Chemical Brothers, Flogging Molly, The Roots, Joss Stone, Blanche, Wax Poetic, Electrelane, Daniel Darc, Yann Destal, Muse, Archive, Melissa Auf der Maur, Radio 4, Buck 65, Nosfell, Hoggboy, Mr Vegas, Kaolin, Zero 7 et Colour of Fire.

En 2005, le festival s’agrandit, ouvre une troisième scène et installe un camping. Il inaugure également le dispositif « Les Avant Seine » qui permet à des groupes franciliens d’intégrer sa programmation. Pixies, Queens of the Stone Age, Arcade Fire, Feist, The Sunday Drivers, Jurassic 5, Hot Hot Heat, Athlete, Vitalic, The Subways, Michel Franti & Spearhead, Alkaline Trio, Franz Ferdinand, Foo Fighters, Robert Plant, Goldfrapp, Saïan Supa Crew, The Departure, Babyshambles, La Phaze, Amp Fiddler et Asyl s’y produisent devant 46 000 festivaliers.

L’année suivante, Rock en Seine réunit 57 000 spectateurs en programmant Morrissey, Kasabian, The Raconteurs, DJ Shadow, Patrice, Dirty Pretty Things, Nada Surf, Calexico, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, TV on the Radio, Wolfmother, India Arie, Neimo, Dead Pop Club, French Paradoxe, Radiohead, Beck, Broken Social Scene, The Rakes, Skin, Rhesus, The Dead 60’s, Phoenix, Grand Corps Malade, Editors, Xavier Rudd, Taking Back Sunday, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Fancy et Daddy Longlegs.

En 2007, le festival s’étend sur trois jours et souffre de la défection d’Amy Winehouse remplacée par Cold War Kids. Dizzee Rascal, Mogwai, The Shins, The Hives, Arcade Fire, Rock & Roll, Dinosaur Jr, M.I.A., Émilie Simon, 2 Many DJ’s, Rodeo Massacre, Hey Hey My My, Biffy Clyro, The Noisettes, UNKLE, The Fratellis, Jarvis Cocker, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Tool, Puppetmastaz, Hellogoodbye, Erik Truffaz, CSS, Les Rita Mitsouko, I Love UFO, Pravda, Calvin Harris, Terry Poison, Alpha, Daby Touré, Mark Ronson, Kings of Leon, Faithless, Björk, Bat for Lashes, Devotchka, Kelis, Just Jack, Craig Armstrong, Housse de Racket, Nelson, Albert Hammond Jr., Bromheads Jackets et Enter Shikari complètent la programmation.

L’année suivante, Amy Winehouse annule à nouveau sa prestation. Rage Against the Machine, Mix Master Mike, Lostprophets, Blood Red Shoes, R.E.M., Dirty Pretty Things, Kaiser Chiefs, Tricky, Serj Tankian, The Dø, Apocalyptica, Wax Tailor, Plain White T’s, Hot Chip, The Infadels, These New Puritans, Narrow Terence, Da Brasilians, The Latitudz, The Raconteurs, Justice, The Roots, The Streets, Kate Nash, Jamie Lidell, Louis XIV, Black Kids, DbClifford, Blues Explosion, Scars on Broadway, Brooklyn, Fortune et Molecule sont bel et bien présents.

En 2009, Rock en Seine bat son record d’affluence avec plus de 97 000 spectateurs sur trois jours. Cette édition est marquée par l’annulation à la dernière minute d’Oasis. Les organisateurs réunissent néanmoins Madness, Keane, Bloc Party, Amy Macdonald, Vitalic, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Just Jack, James Hunter, Oceana, Bill Callahan, Passion Pit, Gush, The Tatianas, Faith No More, The Offspring, Billy Talent, Birdy Nam Nam, Kitty Daisy and Lewis, Ebony Bones, Yann Tiersen, Noisettes, Calvin Harris, The Horrors, Dananananaykroyd, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, School Of Seven Bells, Jil is lucky, Cheveu, The Prodigy, MGMT, Eagles of Death Metal, Klaxons, Them Crooked Vultures, Macy Gray, Sliimy, Sammy Decoster, Robin McKelle, Baaba Maal, Metric, Patrick Wolf, Veto, Hindi Zahra et Lilly Wood and the Prick.

L’année suivante, le festival accueille Blink 182, Cypress Hill, Underworld, Skunk Anansie, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Foals, The Kooks, Band of Horses, Kele, All Time Low, Minus the Bear, Deadmau5, French Cowboy, Beast, King of Conspiracy, Roken is Dodelijk, Queens Of The Stone Age, Massive Attack, 2 Many DJ’s, LCD Soundsystem, Paolo Nutini, Two Door Cinema Club, Chew Lips, Stereophonics, Plan B, K’Naan, Jónsi, Jello Biafra, Naive New Beaters, Quadricolor, Viva and the Diva, Martina Topley-Bird, Arcade Fire, Beirut, Wave Machines, Fat Freddy’s Drop, The Ting Tings, Roxy Music, Eels, Rox, The Temper Trap, Wayne Beckford, The Black Angels, Wallis Bird, Crystal Castles, I Am un Chien !! et Success. Nouveau record d’affluence avec 105 000 spectateurs sur trois jours.
